Revitalized Medvedev Wins First Championship in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
